Congratulations on your new baby! After months of pregnancy and the demands of early postpartum life, you are probably eager to get back to exercise. But returning to the gym too soon or the wrong way can lead to pelvic floor issues, diastasis recti, or injury.
When Can You Start Exercising Again?
The old rule of waiting 6 weeks is outdated. Walking and gentle movement can begin within days of delivery. But higher-impact activities like running, jumping, heavy lifting, and core exercises require a more individualized assessment.
Signs You May Not Be Ready Yet
Leaking urine or stool during exercise, pelvic pressure or heaviness, pelvic or low back pain during or after workouts, or a visible belly ridge during core exercises are all signs your body needs more time or targeted rehabilitation.
At CoreX Physical Therapy in Aurora, CO, Dr. Anhelina Anufryienka specializes in postpartum rehabilitation. Call or text 303-222-5550 to book your postpartum evaluation today.
